04/24/2005 150000

This was taken as I was driving along the 10 freeway coming into the Banning area on the way home from Arizona. I thought the clouds were cool and wanted to get a picture where there was just a sliver of earth in the image with an unusually large amount of sky. This is what I came up with. I like it. :) It worked out like I had intended.

The picture was taken at 3:00 PM, so it wasn't dusk. The clouds were creating a lot of shadows on the ground which partly explains the darker ground to the lighter sky. I always do post processing, so that's involved also. I added saturation to the image, and did a layers mask to make the sky darker towards the top. I also lightened up the mountains a bit so you could see some details in them since they were too dark with the original image.

Yeh, it’s quite moody and very interesting lighting with the top of the cloud illuminated and the base dark. Was this taken at dusk – or was there some processing?
