As a surf photographer I'm sometimes asked if surfers ever get hit by boards flying off after a wipeout. Well the answer is yes and even though the boards are leashed to the ankle, they still pose a danger to surfers in the vicinity of the fall. In this shot the board is heading right for the surfer in the front. He then performed a perfect outward block to deflect the board and stayed up and surfed away. It was so cool. I captured the entire sequence and you can see it on my Instagram series "Surfing Seaside" at instagram.com/npaoni.
