Kodak DCS 420

Photos taken with my "classic" Kodak DCS 420

This camera was introduced in 1994, and for its time was pretty amazing. In 1994, my computer's hard disk was 500 Mb. This camera produces 1.6 Mb raw files, which can be interpolated into jpeg files that take up about 3-4 Mb, or nearly 1% of what was then my hard disk capacity. It can shoot several frames in quick succession before writing to its storage, a full-sized PCMCIA flash card or miniature hard disk. The native resolution is 1016 X 1524 pixels, but because the camera does not have an anti-aliasing filter to reduce color moire, the resolution is about 900 lines per picture height, almost as good as many 3 MP cameras. Lots more information on this and other "classic" DSLR cameras can be found at http://www.nikonweb.com in case you're interested.

These cameras initially cost about $US 10,000. I'm glad I didn't buy one then, but they are very interesting to experiment with now, for a lot less money.
