I tend to agree with "declining" but not so much with "rapidly". The reason is correct. Becoming a serious social problem - I disagree.
With the fall of communism, most nationalized property was returned to their rightful owners or their inheritors. This is a huge ammount of wealth. Many people from the countryside have cashed in and moved to the cities, mainly the capital. The smart young people with earning power, moved to the west, because of little or no opportunity for realization, here in Bulgaria. I consider this as a benefit for all concerned.
I've worked for number of years for Fluor corporation, out of Houston and retired as a senior design supervisor E&I (Electrical and Instrumentation). Some of my travels were for business and some for pleasure.

i have actually been told by friends in sofia, that the population in bulgaria is declining rapidly because of large amounts of emmigration elsewhere, and that this has become a serious social problem... do you disagree? (by the way are you an architecht? i find you take great interest in architecture and have travelled a great deal. even to houston, not far from me.)
