Jim, the builder had a dilemma. The place we needed to put the light fixture was not level. The hanging kit made it hang too low. I asked if he could build something to make it level there, so he did. It works, I'm happy. I had a matching light fixture for above the window seat and could not return them. I had shopped my fingers off on the net looking at every fixture available and none fit the bill any better. So we made do, and it does not bother me.
