Late one balmy afternoon, away from the regular tourist sites at the Marble Mountains, south of Da Nang, tootling around on our bicycles after looking at a puzzling area of dug-up graves, we stumbled on a shrine at a cross-road. The light was golden, a tree (strangler fig?) was wrapped around the doorway. It was irresistable. Across the road was an even smaller little shrine. It was clearly cared for, in contrast to the desecrated graves on the hillside close by.
