my thoughts echo Phil's and Ana's. definitely a stuggle for freedom...but he's almost there. a powerful image, Tim.
(i now have images in my mind of a concrete statue escaping and running up the street...i think it's time for my crazy pills! ;) )

Well, maybe if I was seeing the whole monument I wouldn't find this one so abstract, but the way you chose to present this photo to us, definitely intensifies this feeling.
Strangely, I feel it also as an almost scary image, because it's almost like seing someone that was traped in that concrete block and it's tryind desperately to get out...
Definitely a powerful shot.

At first glance, this seems almost alive. It is very abstract, highly incongruous, and speaks to us of rich human values. Your frame and the structure from which this sculpture emerges represent the the confines from which man must break free. And this figure is doing just that.
