Dad (Doninic Peter Casavecchia) joined up on 09 October 1942; this snapshot taken during his 'boot leave' before his 1st Navy assignment.
Dad served as a Gunner's Mate on DE(s) during WWII. He received a Purple Heart when on 20 December 1944 the USS Fogg (DE 57)
was torpedoed by a German U-870 Sub near the Azores Islands.
