Comparison chart

This pic was recently switched due to changed testbed (Nikon D70 to D200). Different samples were used and retested. Nikkor 50mm f1.8 used seems to be of average characteristics, while 50mm f1.4 is my third and best among all samples owned and/or tested.
Strong D200 AA filtering called for different way of reading and converting raw files: now they are read by ACR 3.6 with Detail-->Sharpness set to 50 instead of default value of 25. This way sharpest lens tested (55mm f2.8 AF Micro-Nikkor) just reached D200 Nyquist frequency of 82 lp/mm, followed closely by those two 50s.

You're right about 50 f1.8, Reck. That's why I didn't sell it when purchased 50 f1.4. Just couldn't make up my mind :)

Thanks for posting this, it's enhanced detail is fascinating. The way the 1.8 'leaps' off the line, then maintains sharpness across a wide range, plus great sharpness to the edges, is all marvelous for a $98.00 lens.
