Black Leopard

Chaffee Zoo, Fresno, CA

This leopard's spots, or "rosettes," are on a black background instead of the golden one usually associated with leopards,
and so are almost invisible except in bright light.
This black, or melanistic form of the leopard is most commonly found in the dark rain forests in India, Java, and Malaysia,
and were once thought to be a separate species called the "black panther."

I agree with fotobug about accepting blown out areas to get detail in dark. On the other hand, I usually then crop out the blown out area (if possible) and I think such a technique would work with this one.

Very nice image, with lots of detail in that black coat. I will forego the bright background any day to get detail in what I am interested in. Nice job.
