This would be the equivalent of Vatican City, the church and residence of Bartholomew I, the Archbishop of Constantinople, New Rome, and Ecumenical Patriarch, and thus "first among equals" in the Eastern Orthodox Communion. He often speaks out on environmental issues; I read an article about him in the late 1990s about his views on habitat destruction. He was born on one of the few islands in the Aegean that belongs to Turkey, and is thus a Turkish citizen.
