Un-Reconstructed

Corinth, Mississippi

It is one of only a handful of its kind in the United States. Un-Reconstructed is a local music group that travels the country performing period American, Irish and Scottish songs. The idea sprang from the band's lead singer, David Edwards. Edwards has dabbled in music of all kinds since he was a teenager - chiefly on the guitar. In 1993, he met up with Susie Stephenson, an old high school friend. Stephenson plays the more unusual instruments in the group, most notably the hammered dulcimer, jaw harp and Bodhran Irish drum. Since its inception, Edwards and Stephenson have seen musicians come and go as a part of the band. Currently, Un-Reconstructed has a husband-and-wife musical duo, Chris and Heather Dempsey. Interestingly, both are high school English teachers and both have had a long interest in music. "I've been playing the fiddle since the fifth grade," Chris Dempsey said. "I come from a long line of fiddle players. One of my greatest memories as a kid is listening to a recording from the 1920s of my great-grandfather playing."
