American Cemetery

These are images taken of the American Military Cemetery just outside of Cambridge. The cemetery space was donated by the University of Cambridge in 1944 so as to provide a place to bury the many soldiers who died in service in World War II, primarly those on British-based aircraft. Each headstone is in the form of a cross as the majority are here, though there are also Stars of David for those who professed the Jewish faith which you can see in some images if you look closely. There is also a Memorial wall with names of the 5,127 missing and several headstones among the others without a name and a simple engraving 'Here rests in honored glory a comrade in arms known but to God' seen here.

If you are ever in Cambridge, it is definitely worth the visit, particularly on a sunny day which really makes this place all the more special as the sun beams down on the white headstones. The city tour buses make a stop here, or else it is about a 6 mile bike ride through beautiful scenery, but a bit of a hill at the end, so beware.
