The snow is gone

After the coldest December in 130 years, the Big Freeze is over.
The thaw, when it came, came quickly, leaving floods and burst pipes in its wake.
Had to go into work for a couple of hours today so nipped down to the harbour
on the way home. Was amazed to see it blocked with ice which had floated
down from the river. Everything is grey again and I'm missing the wonderful
light which accompanied the snow.

Love the texture of the ice. I also like the "just an ordinary place at a particular time" feel; this is going to be one of those classic "remember when" images. Might be interesting to do a shot from the same spot in the middle of summer for a comparison.

Oh wow Mairead, this is amazing, like you I'm not sorry the big freeze is gone.
But, it did make for some great excuses to go out and take some shots.
Thank's for your visits and comments, have a wonderful New Year and hopefully we will all have a prosperous new year, some chance of that eh!!

The few spots of color are so effective in this grey scene. A wonderful shot on a cloudy day.

Give it a few days and all this will be gone too (hopefully).

Looks like an ice breaker has been through the harbour - a great scene

The downside of the winter... brown and drab. Nice that you got some colorful tanks and building to warm up the scene. I agree with Maire, hope this thaw means you'll soon have some Irish green come back to the landscape.

Cold and grey, but believe me, I welcome that grey and hope it'll lead us back to our green landscape soon...
