Torrential rain over the last few days has led to severe flooding in many parts of the west, south and midlands.
Homes, farms, shops, schools and even a hospital have been flooded as swollen rivers burst their banks in villages
and cities from Galway to Waterford.
While hundreds of people have had their homes flooded, there has fortunately been no loss of life, unlike in England where a policeman was swept away in floodwaters in Cumbria.
Although we have had flooding here on previous occasions due to high tides, this time the flooding has been
limited to ponds of water in fields, with seagulls joining the flocks of sheep in the meadows.
