You may have noticed that our fellow Pbaser Frimpong has been living the high life in Qatar.

My experience on Pbase has been greatly enriched since I first came to know Frimpong and consequently was invited to help out on his office staff.

Because of this I have now travelled vicariously with him to many places, and thus enjoyed very much the experience of a rodeo in Montana, climbing Kilimanjaro, seeing the wonders of Zanzibar, and enjoying the beauty of mid-winter snow in Weardale, Co. Durham.

Even though he projects the personality of a bon viveur, with his interest in delicious food, fine wine and good beer, he has also a deep spiritual side to his pantheistic spirit. He attended to this recently with a wonderful retreat to the wild spaces of Connemara in the company of Bartosz.
And no sooner had he got a clear bear view of his state of mind than he was off on his travels again. He managed to squeeze in a trip to Qatar around that time, and those of us on Frimpong’s staff have been very taken by the way our boss has adapted so quickly, despite his coat of bear fur, from the rather rugged cool temperature of the Twelve Bens to the bright sunshine and colourful scenes of Qatar.

Since I became an assistant on his staff, I have also got to know his Aunt Violet. In fact her silent accompaniment of me on some of my trips had her voice tinkling in my ear as I envisaged how she might like to experience and view some of the sights I was about to photograph. Violet projects a strong and vibrant imagination, and could be regarded as something of a literary and artistic “groupie”, such is her vast range of friends and admirers across centuries and continents. Frimpong may be a travelling bear, but Violet is something of a time traveller as she has had amazing experiences spanning the most interesting years of a considerable fraction of the twentieth century.
