The Finished Product

This is the finished product after a few seasons use. These seacocks are for; head sink, macerator pump & head intake. I prefer to use heavy duty mandrel formed marine hose, such as Trident or Shields, for all below waterline connections. I also prefer to use AWAB non-perforated hose clamps & I always double clamp for below water applications.

Remember to close your seacocks when you leave the boat. The best way to ensure your seacocks will last and work as they should, for years and years, is to simply use & exercise them.

Thank you for your "How To" on replacing Thru-Hulls and Seacocks. I am facing maintenance/replacement of several thruhulls on a 1985 sailboat, and I plan to install seacocks and backing plates on each. I will be using flush mount thru-hulls in most cases, but at least two of the existing thru-hulls are single piece "scoop" thru-hulls. What difficulty does that impose to align the scoop while ensuring that it is adequately tightened? What are my options? Thanks!

Hey -- where is the bonding wire for that seacock!

Great site and great advice. I like the bit about countersinking in order to provide more space for sealant to be in contact with the bolts. And kudos for not aligning those hose clamps so that they look pretty all ligned-up! Too many people orient the clamping screws so that any anomalies in clamping pressure line-up in the hose.

Question for you: If you don't like 5200 because it is too permanent, why do you epoxy backing plates in place? Why not allow 5200 to be used on your boat under backing plates only? Compared to mixing resins, it is easier to use -- just squirt it out.

You should write for one of the boating magazines your directions are the best.
