The Hawaiian monk seal is an endangered species. When this fellow rolled up onto the sand to sun himself,
lifeguards immediately created a perimeter with "DO NOT CROSS" tape and signs warning people not to approach him.
Yes, he was very much alive, occasionally rolling over or flipping a flipper; he just wanted some sun.
