Volcanic Tuff & Tubes

Big Bend National Park, Texas

Along Ross Maxwell road, you see lava, volcanic tuff and ash, The white stuff is not snow.
It is Volcanic Tuff. Tuff is a type of rock made of volcanic ash ejected from a vent during a volcanic eruption. Following ejection and deposition, the ash is lithified into a solid rock.
In the this image you can see a volcanic plug (Neck) which marks a vent. It is near the foreground in the white tuff.
