I think the version by Howling Wolf is probably the most popular, but this song has been done by many, including the Stones, the Doors, Grateful Dead, Albert King, Junior Wells. My favorite version is done by Big Mama Thornton.
The Red Rooster - written by Willie Dixon
I have a little red rooster, too lazy to crow for day
I have a little red rooster, too lazy to crow for day
Keep everything in the barnyard, upset in every way
Oh the dogs begin to bark,
and the hound begin to howl
Oh the dogs begin to bark, hound begin to howl
Ooh watch out strange kind people,
Cause little red rooster is on the prowl
If you see my little red rooster, please drag him home
If you see my little red rooster, please drag him home
There ain't no peace in the barnyard,
Since the little red rooster been gone
I love that phone number. We have a fast food place down here called Red Rooster. They sell a product called Crispy Strips, which are probably hugely bad for you from a dietary point of view and doubtless send your salt levels into the stratosphere. Nonetheless, they're an occasional guilty indulgence. So your little red rooster? He was probably last Saturday week's lunch. Sorry about that.
