Misty evening

1 September 2005

490
September is now upon us and there is a chill in the air giving notice that the summer is drawing to a close. Alright, I'm lying - although just a little. It was pleasantly warm today - not that I got much of a chance to enjoy it, being, as I was, stuck in front of my computer trying to earn some money this morning, then, in the afternoon, up at the hospital getting the results from my MRI scan. The results were as expected - there is something 'abnormal' and it is pressing against my sciatic nerve. However, that said, it is not as bad as expected: the disk has not slipped out completely, there is just a small bulge which - because I am not in agony all the time and can now walk without a crutch - they hope to be able to treat with physiotherapy and new medication. This was a cause of some relief to me, I can tell you, because the last thing I want just now is to be operated on in one of our MRSA infested hospitals. Anyway, they are going to try physio for a while, but keep me under observation and referred to the neurosurgery department, where I have to go back to in January. After this bittersweet news, I took Liam to his guitar lesson then went down to the Riverside where I decided to have an attempt at some longish exposures. A car was driving along this unmade road beside the University sports field (I suspect that this particular road is used for cruising), and it kicked up a fair amount of dust, which I thought might look quite nice. Tell you something else about long exposures: they certainly show you how dirty your sensor is. I think there must be less dust in the vacuum cleaner than there is in my D70!

This is nice... lulled into a quite calm of a soft foggy morning while two headlights come right at me ;). Well captured... I love foggy images.

This is a cracker, Stu, just brilliant. I do like the effects you can get with long exposures.

Glad to hear the "bittersweet" news from your MRI. You are right, could have been much worse, and I pray the therapy will do wonders. This is a lovely image.

Love the twin stars of the headlights and that creamy fog. As a health care worker, I have a 90% chance of carrying MSRA. That's where it comes from in hospitals. The personnel. As a healthy person, and with the surgical team properly masked and gowned, the odds of you being infected are low. But good news about not needing surgery. :)
