Gordon was my best friend during my schooldays. In 1980 and 1981 we were inseparable as we waited to set out on our working lives - he in the Navy, me in BT. We listened to Adam and the Ants, drove about Kerrycroy and Mountstuart House on our motorbikes and smoked Royal Navy issue Navy Cut cigarettes. This is a picture of the last time Gordon and I were together - in Rothesay in April 1983. Yesterday, after 21 years, I got an email from him via Friends Reunited. He now lives in New Zealand. And his message after all this time? He said that I have got fatter! And you know what... he's not wrong. (PS Gordon is on the left, skinny me is on the right.)
