I am a political historian specialising in the Portuguese Republic (established 5 October 1910) On 25 April 1974, the Portuguese military rose against the authoritarian regime that had governed that country since 1926, first under António de Oliveira Salazar, then his successor, Marcello das Neves Caetano. The Carnation Revolution had begun. Today's PaD is to celebrate 30 years of Portuguese democratisation.
