Port Allen, one of my favourite places, is being destroyed for ever. We walked down here for the first time in more than a year, only to be presented with this sight: three carloads of adults, children and barbecue equipment watching a JCB tear up the ground abutting the small river on which the boats are found, in preparation for some form of construction - in all probability a house. They have already removed most of the river wall and there is no longer any access to the small jetty that can be seen just behind the digger.
