Siphon Lake panorama

Russian Wilderness

Siphon lake got its name due to the large iron pipes laid into it in the late 1800s to siphon water from the lake downhill towards the Salmon river to add additional water for the hydraulic mining of gold from the hillsides. The pipes are still there today, and the lake was on the old PCT route, but today it's a short 1 mile hike off the current PCT route.
