When I chose my original site I decided to build behind the fertilizer storage bin used by the top dressing pilots - it would give me protection from the fierce Sou'West winds. At the time it seemed like a good idea. It didn't turn out that way - the bin was a huge heat sink and gave off that heat during the evening resulting in unwanted turbulance, plus then it rained it dumped all it's water on the observatory site turning the place into a bog. A lot learned and the site was abandoned for greener pastures.
