The cost of breakdown and obsolescence

My D100 took what I believe to be her final picture yesterday. She served me well for three years. Now she sits in a cabinet, shielded from the elements by a Zip-Loc bag.

Today I bought a Nikon D80, rendering everything pictured here obsolete: the four CompactFlash cards don't fit in the D80; the three batteries do not work in the D80, the battery charger doesn't work with the D80's battery, and the AC adapter isn't needed to hold the shutter open for cleaning of the sensor. The cost of everything shown here was about a gazillion dollars. Obsolescence is painful.

Could have been worse. At least your lenses fit. And like everyone else, my condolences and congrats on the D80. Ebay awaits.

10 cents or a gazliilion dollars. Totally irrelevant as long as you have the money to spend (which you did).
The pain of spending money can be unlearnt, ask any woman.
Enjoy your new camera.

too bad about the cf cards not fitting...my Canon Pro-1 uses them as well and I like the size as opposed to the smaller variety....

only a gazillion? was it on sale? you may be able to unload all the old stuff on ebay or maybe to Rocco "The Cook" Cappuccino at the end of the alley. he'll give you an offer you can't refuse!

Just went through the same thing with my Canon 300D. It can be repaired, but is it worth it? Who knows... so I went out and got the XTi. Just like you, I now have a new battery, new charger, but fortunately, the same storage media. (Except it was large enough for 6mp pictures, but now with 10mp, it's pretty skimpy.

That said, you're going to LOVE your new cam, just as I do mine. We'll both soon forget the painful hiccup when the credit card statement comes. At least, that's what I hope! :-)))

Condolences and congrats all the same on this transitional period of your digital crusade to bust open that speed record! New toys and faith are the only things that help in times of sorrow!

let's see, a gazillion is an SI unit of expenditure measured in k$/paycheck which is an indicator of how long you have to wait until you can blow another wad of cash on another cool toy.
