28th July 2013 - trying to right a wrong

This is a screenshot taken today of a photo I took almost exactly a year ago. The happy couple are Gary and Bonnie and they are newly Mum and Dad to baby Alfred, born a couple of weeks ago. I don’t think I have ever seen such a beautiful wedding. Their setting was exquisite and the wedding was charged with emotion as the bride had been battling with the immigration authorities for months to be allowed to come here and marry her man. She finally got here a few days before the wedding and she only had one guest, her sister, because the rest of her family were unable to travel.

Given their difficult journey to the church and given that last summer’s weather was the worst for years, they had a lovely, sunny day. Bonnie is a woman with true class. Her gown was simple and understated and all the better for it. I'm sure Gary is very well aware that he has won the heart of a very special person and equally, given that Gary is one of DMs oldest friends, I can vouch for his credentials in the "loveliness department". When they came to our wedding, Bonnie stole the show (in the nicest possible way) with her vivaciousness! I had a stream of people coming to see me all day saying "Bonnie is SOOOO lovely". We were their “official” photographers for their day and we let them down badly because although we took nearly 300 photos between us, they have so far only seen a couple of dozen of them that were hastily processed and loaded into a gallery on pbase for them to see.

I have been feeling guilty about failing to finish what we started last year but unable to spend time processing photos with everything else going on in our world. Now that things are a little less fraught and, especially as today’s weather has been too hideous for outdoor jobs, I have spent the day processing their photos. I reckon I’m about 1/3 of the way to being able to present them with a half-decent DVD of processed photos.

In some senses the job is easy. It’s looking at a load of photos of two lovely, beautiful people and polishing the shots so that we can be proud of them. The sheer scale of the task is daunting though and I have been well and truly chastised by DM because he felt that at 7.30pm I should stop for the day! He’s probably right as I have now processed 63 photos. I’d completely understand if Gary and Bonnie were furious with us for being so tardy with their precious memories and hope that when they see the photos we’ll get forgiven!
