" A tourist is a traveller who travels for pleasure. Most travel photographers, unless they are professionals, are simply tourists with cameras.
Wherever we may go, we find other tourists there as well. They come from all over the world. Their pleasures were no different.
They wanted to see, learn, discover, and enjoy unfamiliar scenes, people, and places.
Most serious travel photographers will go to great lengths to avoid getting stray tourists into their images.
However there are times where tourists themselves can make the picture work for us. Instead of avoiding pictures that include tourists,
why not make evocative images involving tourism itself? There can be a world of photographic opportunity in such subject matter.
Tourism can be as rich in human values and incongruity as any other subject, and can become as abstract as we choose to make it. "

Agree with many of the comments below. This man has such a good pose like he is very much aware of your presence.

Beautiful words from Phil and beautiful image, Ai Li.
It reminds me something from a film.

He's dressed just so to present his best side to a city presenting her best as well. They are ready for each other. They each may discover flaws in the other, covered by the finery, but for now they'll enjoy what they can.

Brill Al..the clarity is sublime.
The dogtooth pattern on his jacket seems to repeat the distant windows of the city..
Bloody smashing!

Good shot! Almost a man sitting in front of a wall painting.

I am honored by this caption, AL -- and by the image as well. You offer here a perfect example of what I am suggesting in your quote. You evoke an expression of loneliness -- he keeps company with but a railing, while the teeming city across the harbor seems far beyond his reach. He is all dressed up with no place to go. Tourists have feelings, too, and you express them well here, AL.

i bet he felt it, but that look gave the shot a totally different meaning, superb capture AL ,the background is perfect too,

Really like this one - a strong story-telling component. Has a cold feeling to it, but in a good way. Very compelling. Vote.

You are doing well with 'travel photography', Ai Li.
The way you composed the view is more sensitive, more artistic, more personal that just a tourist shot, and therefore, more valuable.

This is extraordinary. Superb.
It looks as though the man is sat in front of a giant poster. It looks as though he may have just noticed you.

Superb contrast and clarity. This image is technically excellent, but also very interting thanks to the timing, and this tourist who is maybe feeling your presence in the back. Excellent shot, Voted.

Wonderful! High-key bakground, in contrast with the coloured boy. Excellent! Roberto

I like the colour contrast between the man and the water. It's almost as if we are looking at the split-second in between him enjoying the view and realising he is having his photo taken. Very cool!
