The St. Peter Church is the oldest in Leuven. She was probably founded in 986. The first church burned in 1176. Then a new romance with an established church crypt behind the choir. With the construction of the present Gothic building - much broader than the Romanesque church - was started in 1425. The choir was built by Sulpicius van Vorst. After playing in January Keldermans Matthew II and the Layens an important role. The church itself was virtually completed in 1497.

The church has two world wars suffered greatly. Thus in 1914 the roof burned and in 1944 bombed the north transept.


De Sint-Pietersparochie is de oudste van Leuven. Ze werd waarschijnlijk in 986 gesticht. De eerste kerk brandde af in 1176. Toen werd een nieuwe romaanse kerk opgericht met een crypte achteraan het koor. Met de constructie van het huidige gotische gebouw - veel ruimer opgevat dan de romaanse kerk - werd begonnen in 1425. Het koor werd gebouwd door Sulpicius van Vorst. Nadien speelden Jan Keldermans II en Matheus de Layens een belangrijke rol. De kerk zelf was praktisch voltooid in 1497.

De kerk heeft onder de twee wereldoorlogen sterk geleden. Zo brandde in 1914 het dak af en werd in 1944 de noorderkruisbeuk gebombardeerd.
