Temperature stayed steady at 35-36 deg. F. We were out from 9AM until 11:30 pm with staff out longer to gather hounds. Barometric pressure was rising, it was sunny and windy. Winds were from the WNW and sometimes gusting up to 29 mph.

Horses were wild today. Wakeyan reared with Eleanor as she was gather the hounds in front of the club. John was having issues with Titan. Emily was on Rocky who was fine. Mary had a tryout horse from Kansas City. Gene was on Abe. Tom Neese was on his black saddlebred mare who was very high starting out and never really settled down. Even my mare was snorting as we hacked over.

We headed out from the Kennels heading West toward Billy Busch’s. We jumped the coop into Billy’s cow pasture and shortly afterward a couple of people viewed a coyote. From the description it sounded like two different ones. We circle the cow pasture a couple of times and then Eleanor gathered what hounds she had and drew the creek. The hounds ran up the creek and we had to stop while Ron and Jean dropped the hot wire that goes in front of the coop behind Mike’s place. We headed down the creek and I managed to get a locust tree branch right in the face. I had a pretty good cut on the chin and jaw and it bled for quite some time while we were on the run almost to Schwede Rd. When Ron and Jean caught up with us it was apparent that they had found the same branch I had as they both had battle scars on their face. Most of the rest of the hunt was spent looking for hounds that had scattered all directions. In fact, when I got back to the farm, Jester showed up shortly afterwards looking very tired. We hadn’t even hunted that direction. I stuck him in the MHF kennels and called Eleanor to come get him so that he wouldn’t have to find his way home.
