False sphinx caterpillar (Pheosia rimosa), #7922

Larose Forest

Found on a poplar. This caterpillar is called false sphinx because it has a horn on its rear end like most sphinx moth caterpillars. It turns into a really handsome moth: https://pbase.com/laroseforest/image/170751492

What a fascinating looking caterpillar. It looks like it's really going to town on that leaf. "V"

Fine capture of the caterpillar, which almost looks like it has many eyes. V.

It’s making short work of that leaf. Super photo of the caterpillar and the moth too.
