Spring peeper (Hyla crucifer)

Larose Forest. These small(about an inch long) young frogs are very common along the woodland trails in the forest, perched on vegetation, like this one. The distinctive X pattern on their back is characteristic and makes them easy to identify. Like most frog species, they are aquatic only during breeding season when they head to vernal pools and lay their eggs. Once the tadpoles have transformed into adults, they head off into upland areas such as here. The same is true for the treefrog in the next photo too.
