"The Coreopsis Lady"

Hat Hill Gallery, Blackheath, NSW, Australia

Coreopsis grows along the railway lines and roadsides of New South Wales, coming into
glorious golden flower every summer. When I was a small boy it was explained to me that
this was because an eccentric lady used to travel all over the state throwing coreopsis
seeds out the train windows. Seventy years later I regard this story with some skepticism
but I told it to my artist daughter, who has depicted the myth in this print. Most of the
world's myths have long been perpetuated in art, but the myth of the coreopsis lady only now.
