Chapelle Sainte Radegonde.

This beautiful little chapel on a hilltop in central regional France. It has always reminded me of the difficulties the people of Europe suffered during the many wars. I'm sure it has been a refuge for a long time....I am using it to match my final entry for this month,
Thank you for your visits and comments, they are very much appreciated.

There are two movie titles I think of when I look at this photo, though I'm sure the reality for both these young girls was harsher than hollywood depicted

Joan of Arc is a 1948 American hagiographic epic film directed by Victor Fleming, and starring Ingrid Bergman as the French religious icon and war heroine. It was produced by Walter Wanger. It is based on Maxwell Anderson's successful Broadway play Joan of Lorraine, which also starred Bergman, and was adapted for the screen by Anderson himself, in collaboration with Andrew Solt. It is the only film of an Anderson play for which the author himself wrote the film script (at least partially).

The Song of Bernadette is a 1943 biographical drama film based on the 1941 novel of the same name by Franz Werfel. It stars Jennifer Jones in the title role, which portrays the story of Bernadette Soubirous (later canonized Saint Bernadette) who, from February to July 1858 in Lourdes, France, reported eighteen visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Wonderful contrasts and details in this nicely framed monochrome. This structure really conveys a feeling of strength. V+

A beautifully composed and photographed shot, and you are right, this would do for either of the movies. V

certainly modest, and lacking in windows...must have been dark for believers, and for refuge seekers..
