The Great West Window, York Minster

The Great West Window

Like any stained glass window the glass of
the Great West Window requires re-leading
and cleaning approximately every 120 years
or so. The West Window which dates from
c.1338-39 has therefore been dismantled,
re-leaded and reorganised on a number of
occasions.
The overall glazing scheme was designed to
reflect the hierarchy and legitimacy of the
medieval Church.
