The Comet From The Lake

I can still hear the click-click-click of the chain pulling the cars up the first hill; and the anticipation of cresting the first hill...

Crystal Beach was great ! Our family would race the boat over there as we went through Buffalo it was pulling out. We would get to Crystal Beach in time to see it pulling in and unload. Never road it Wish I would have .

Im 48 years old now but I still remember like it was yesterday. How my family use to go to Crystal Beach and the first ride I would go on was the Comet. What a rush, especially the first hill you went down. You can feel your stomach turning.

For me it was Kensington Day at the beach. I would save money and hope to get a new out fit. I got my first kiss at Crystal Beach(it was in that boat ride in the dark). Remember the blast of air in The Magic Palace and those crazy mirrors?

I spent my summers in Crystal Beach until I was 11 years old, when the lake started to become polluted. But every year I wanted to go on the Comet. You had to be 11 or tall enough and I wasn't hitting that height requirement. the year I turned 11 my parents let me go to the park alone and I got on the front car. I can still feel the initial drop, it was worth the wait and I will never forget it. The best years of my life were spent here. Loganberry and fries with malt vinegar. YUM!

I remember riding the comet on Tonawandas Day, but it was the Cyclone that took your breath away. They replaced the Cyclone with the Comet. As I remember it they had a nurse on duty all the time the Cyclone was in operation. Thanx for the trip down memory lane. I have a lot of fond memoriies when it comes to Crystal Beach.

I missed the Canadiana days but it didnt make the park any less special to me - I had two generations who rode the boat and told me their stories. I grew up here - marking the time summer by summer. Kenmore Days were very special. On closing day, a very sad day indeed, I rode the Comet backwards with my 80yr old grandmother. She made the Buffalo News that day. Great Lady, Great Ride, Great Park - I miss them all. Thank you for the memories.

I remember coming around that last turn at the end of the ride, back under the canopy. The train would come to a screeching halt. If it was a crowded day and they were running more than one train, the kids would be lined up all the way out back down to the asphalt...waiting their turn. And you had to get off and get to the back of the line for another ride. If it wasn't crowded, you could jump off, give the guy another 6 tickets and hopefully jump right into the front car and ride again. What a great ride it was!!
