Xijiang Miao Village is the largest Miao Village in China with over 1,000 households. The houses cling to three mountains rising on opposite sides of a river (two on the east side and one on the west side) in a helter skelter manner. Here's the tourist's guide book description: Xijiang Miao Village located 37 kilometers away from Leishan County and 80 Kilometers away from Kaili, in southeast China�s Guizhou province, is the largest Miao Village and is well-known for its embroidery and silver ornaments. Xijiang Miao Village sits on a mountain slope, with wood buildings climbing to the mountain top. There are around 1000 wood houses; therefore the village is nicknamed as "One Thousand household Miao Village". All the buildings remain in ancient Ming and Qing dynasties style. Researchers believe the village is the 'living fossil' to study Miao ethnic minority's history and traditional culture. Senior Miao women wear their long dark hair coiled up in neat buns on the top of their heads while the younger Miao women prefer to adorn them with large colorful plastic or bone combs and pretty flowers.
