Sept 24, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. — A deadly Tuesday morning collision involving a city sanitation truck and a moped temporarily shut down a stretch of Randleman Road in Greensboro.
The accident occurred around 7:45 a.m. near the intersection at Concord Street.
Police say the moped rider, 54-year-old Willie Curtis, Jr., of Greensboro, died after being taken to the hospital.
The driver of the garbage truck was not hurt.
All lanes of Randleman Road were closed between Concord Street and Village Green Drive until about noon.
Police say they’re still investigating the collision. It was not clear who was at fault.
Further details about the accident were not immediately available

If this is all people can afford then they should also be required to have INSURANCE just like those who drive a car. The method of transportation may be cheaper but the hospital and medical bills certainly are not..
Sorry for the victims family but mopeds do NOT belong on busy roads..Neither do scooters, bicycles, motorized wheelchairs and golf carts..I live on Hwy 66 and have seen all of these on this road before. No tags, no insurance, most with no helmets either.
I completely disagree Michelle. You are saying when I drive to work on the highway I do not have a right to do the speed limit because you or someone else wants to ride a bicycle or scooter on a 5 lane road? That is absurd. My car has insurance and I pay taxes on that road with the taxes on my car so I have a right to drive the speed limit. We need minimum speeds like they have in SC that would mean you get a ticket because your silly scooter can't make the minimum 65 MPH.
Why are mopeds allowed on the streets anyway. A lot of these folks are drunks who have lost their license anyway and now they can ride these mopeds without INSURANCE. Now when their drunk butts cause an issue, we have to pay for it.
