Family Archives

The 2007 California wildfires motivated me to create this gallery. We never know when disaster is going to strike--we should preserve our vintage photos for future generations. Putting them online is a good way to accomplish this. I have a ton of family pictures, so I'm selecting ones that are reasonably sharp and have a pleasing composition. I hope even non-family members will find the clothes, hairstyles and backgrounds to be of interest.

Well, I have just spent a happy half-hour, admiring your family treasures. From your John Wharton, with his fine, probably self-portrait, through the stately, posed, formal studio shots to the later relaxed and happy pictures of the intervening years, this was a half-hour well spent.
The 1911 shot of your Father and his brother is particularly wonderful, and seems to breach the gap between the posed and informal. Well done you, for gathering it all together. Regards, Mary.

Old photos are so fascinating. I finished a similar project a year or so ago to get my family's old photos online for the same reasons. I feel much more comfortable knowing that they are "safe" in a digital format. And as an added bonus, I've had a few long-lost relatives contact me after finding the photos online.

As you can tell, it was my first time. Didn't get my name in there. It does make me feel connected to all of the family members that went before us!

I really enjoyed looking at the recent photos you added. There are a couple that I had either forgotten about or had never seen! Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to post these. This is a wonderful family legacy.

Beautiful gallery of family photos. Thanks for preserving these for future generations. Hope you will do more of these in the future. I'd love to see more labels on the photos. (ok I know it's time consuming)
