NGC 2856/4
(ARP 285)

Arp 285 is comprised of NGC 2856 (spiral galaxy type Sbc) and NGC 2854 (spiral galaxy type type SBb)
in Ursa Major. The accretion tail perpendicular to NGC 2856 is also faintly visible. Taken in average
to poor seeing and transparency on March 12, 13, 19, 23, 24 and Mar 27 2009 with CCD Lab’s Q285M and
a C8N at f5 on a Losmandy G11/Gemini mount. This is a crop of a larger image containing Arp 1 and
Arp 285 see: http://www.pbase.com/jshuder/image/111201466/large. All subframes were 5 minutes
binned 1x1 resulting in the following total exposures L:R:G:B (min) = 305:75:75:75. Captured with
Nebulosity, calibrated and sigma combined in Iris with other processing using PixInsight LE and
Photoshop CS. North is up.
