Flora and Vegetation
Human activity and the peculiar climatic factors of Cap de Creus condition its plant cover. On the one hand, it must be borne in mind that much of the land is nothing more than an immense abandoned vineyard sitting in bundles supported by stone walls and, on the other hand, the use of the space for grazing has caused repeated fires that have marked the landscape. In addition, the frequency and persistence of the strong wind, especially from the north, which dries the atmosphere and brings salinity to the plants and the soil, conditions a peculiar vegetation that adapts to it.The tree species do not occupy much area; the most common are white pine (Pinus halepensis) and cork (Quercus suber). Very occasionally in some streams we find elm (Ulmus minor), ash (Fraxinus angustifolia), alder (Alnus glutinosa), hazel (Corylus avellana) or willows (Salix sp.). The oak (Quercus ilex) and the Martin oak (Quercus humilis) appear in the more obscure and sheltered places.
