The construction of the Münster Cathedral started about a 1000 years ago and took 500 years. The Münster as we know it today was completed after the reconstruction of the towers, that were destroyed during the earthquake in 1356. The cathedral was enlarged in Gothic style and the towers were completed in 1500. The result is a magnificent red sandstone cathedral with two towers and an extraordinary roof with red/green rhombus shaped patterns.
