The Church of Santa María la Mayor is probably the most important monument of the city of Trujillo. It was built in the thirteenth century (probably the remains of an Arab mosques that existed in Trujillo), after the conquest of the city by the Christians. The Church keeps the elements and details Romanesque and Gothic, but underwent a major restoration in the sixteenth century. This monument is a must during a visit to Trujillo
