Trujillo. Arco de Santiago

Dating back to the 15th Century, this gate was formerly known as the Puerta del Sol. It is one of the entrances into the walled area of Trujillo. As the name suggests, it is located next to the Church of Santiago, one of the emblematic places to be found in Trujillo, from the 13th Century. Its function was defensive and today you can still see Altamirano shields belonging to the family of the Catholic Monarchs. For lovers of architecture and art, it is a great arch. All the key locations include their own information plaque, so it is easy to identify each site quickly.

Jose, I've learned more from your photos than from all the history books I've read!

A marvelous structure. Graceful but strong too.
