In his task to recuperate native medieval architectonic motives for Torre Bellesguard, Antoni Gaudí was inspired by semicircular arches that used to frame the doors of palaces and Catalan farmhouses before the 16th century, but reinterprets them by transforming the arch´s voussoirs into original mosaics in relief created with small dressed stones thar are squared, hexagonally and octogonally shaped. The subtle texture of these pieces, which extends to both sides of the door past the corners of the attached section, contrasts with the austere, greyish green chromtism of the slate found in the same site, which Gaudí uses in order to blend the house into its surroundings.
