Vicente Amigo

Vicente Amigo is one of the most prominent Spanish flamenco guitarists in the world. He was given the Grammy Award twice. He worked out his own unique style which gave him the name of a successor of Paco de Lucia. His music is full of harmony, space and rhythm, and his modern arrangements and passionate performance make his concerts a real feast for flamenco fans.
Vicente Amigo was born in Guadalcanal in the Sevilla province in 1967, but since early childhood has been living in Cordoba where he acquired his first guitar skills.
Since he was fifteen, he had been training under the supervision of Manolo Sanlucara.
Quite early did Vincente concentrate on his own solo repertoire. He has been recognized in the whole country and abroad, not only by flamenco fans, but also in the world of jazz and popular music. Since the publishing of his first solo album, "De Mi Corazón al Aire" (awarded two prestigeous national prizes), and the next two: "Vivencias Imaginadas" and "Poeta" the rate of his sucess has been constantly growing. The same goes for concerts proposals - he performed with John McLaughlin, David Bowie, Stanley Jordan, Al Di Meola, Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, Milton Nascimiento, Joao Bosco, Phil Manzanera, Paco de Lucía.
In 1997 his " Concerto para un Marinero en Tierra" (a tribute to Rafael Alberti) was released on a CD, for which Amigo got two awards: for the best composer and for the best flamenco musician. In the next year José Mercé's album, "Del Amanecer", composed and arranged by Vicente, came onto the market and became the greatest commercial success of all flamenco singers' albums ever. This time Amigo received the award for the best song author. In 2000 his album, "Ciudad de las Ideas", is awarded the greatest international prize - Grammy - for the best flamenco album of the year. No other flamenco artist can pride himself on so many honours.
