Today Poland celebrates 100 years of indepence, regained in 1918 after 123 years of partitions and rule by Russia, Prussia and Austria.
More than 200,000 people are estimated to have taken part in the march through central Warsaw, which was led by President Andrzej Duda.
Most participants in Sunday's march were seen carrying Polish flags, but there were also many nationalists from Poland and Italy, holding banners representing far-right parties.
Many of those attending the march brought red flares that filled the streets with smoke, although they are forbidden by the law.
