The Apadana Stone Relief - A courtier And The Greek Man

Persepolis, Iran

The north stairs of the Apadana at Persepolis show a procession of people bringing tribute to the Achaemenid king, Darius the Great.
The stone Reliefs depict twenty-three gift-bearing delegations each in its own national dress, and separated from the next by a cypress tree, each group being led towards the central panel.
A courtier leads the first delegate of every delegation by the hand. Here a man from the Greek delegation.

The Apadana or Audience Hall of Persepolis belongs to the oldest building phase of the palace complex, the grand design by Darius I the Great (522-486 BC).
On this place, the great king received the tribute from all the nations in the Achaemenid Empire, and gave presents in return.
