Palace of Benedictine. In 1863 Alexandre Le Grand, a wine trader from Fécamp, had built the sumptuous Palais Bénédictine to provide a prestigious setting for the distillery of the liqueur Bénédictine (which is still in operation today) and for his collection of works of art.
The liqueur he called Bénédictine was a tribute to the work of the Benedictine monk Dom Bernardo Vincelli who developed the recipe in the early 16th century.
